Zalman VF700-Cu GPU Cooler Review

January 26th 2005 | Cooling

The decision to choose between Zalman VF700-Cu and VF700-AlCu is pretty easy. The Cu performs better than the AlCu, and the 50% increase in weight is not that big an issue since the Cu is still much lighter than ZM80D-HP! Like the VF700-AlCu, the installation process is much simpler than that of the ZM80D-HP. There’s really no reason for you to choose the AlCu over the Cu, unless weight or cost is a major concern to you. Personally, I think the weight is nothing to worry about.

On average, VF700-Cu is about 3-4°C cooler than VF700-AlCu, depending on the fan speed mode. So, if performance is what you are looking for, the VF700-Cu is clearly your choice. Would I choose this over ZM80D-HP? The answer would be still a ‘yes’ even though the ZM80D-HP is expected to be a better performance. Why? Because, despite its poorer performance, the VF700-Cu is clearly a much better product than the ZM80D-HP, with its far simpler installation process.

…If you are looking for a great quiet cooler for your graphics card, this is certainly one to seriously consider.

Pros : Better performance than VF700-AlCu
Easy installation
Much lighter than ZM80D-HP
Cons : Doesn’t perform as well as ZM80D-HP
