NVIDIA came up with the idea to release yet another GeForce 6600. We’ve seen the standard DDR and even a gDDR3 version .. so why not a gDDR2 version, eh? The product seats itself between the “regular” GeForce 6600 and the still outstanding GeForce 6600 GT. Today’s product is clocked much higher than the standard GeForce 6600, has 256 MB of gDDR2 memory and even comes with a full copy of the game Far Cry. All that for 119 / 125 USD … But is it any good ? Could a game like Quake 4 run on this card ? What do you think ?
If we look at the somewhat older titles then this card just chews them up easily. Modern titles can be played at a resolution of 1024×768. For example you’ll be able to play Doom 3 at high quality with an average of 81 Frames per second and it is still playable with 37 FPS when we enable 4xAA and 8xAF. Halo at that same resolution manages to squeeze out 57 FPS with 16 levels of AF. Even Far Cry at the highest possible Image Quality setting did 39 FPS with 4xAA and 8xAF enabled. That’s just great for the money isn’t it?
