If you are looking for a new hard drive which does a good job of balancing price and performance, Western Digital’s Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250 GB is a smart choice. Our tests showed that this drive offer’s mid-to-upper level performance for a 7200 RPM hard drive and it is aided by the enlarged cache size. In this respect the drive is a solid pick as its size and capabilities are on par with what users should be looking for when making the choice for a performance system.
The WD2500KS does not have any obvious shortcomings- it is reasonably priced, has lots of capacity, and performed well. The 16 MB cache may not have a huge impact on performance but it is noticeable and it bumps this drive up a notch or two, compared to the 8 MB competition. While the WD2500KS is not a rockstar hard drive like the 74 GB Raptor, it is a great choice for use as a main drive, for storage, or just about any other application.
