This review will be taking a look at Western Digital’s Caviar RE SATA 320GB hard drives (WD3200SD). These drives pack 320GB of storage in a 3.5" SATA drive. It may seem like a lot for a consumer-level hard drive, but in this age of DVD-burning, file-sharing, and 40 GB MP3 players you can’t have too much storage space.
If you are looking for a 7200 RPM SATA drive which outperforms many of the others out there, this is a good choice. With a 320 GB capacity the WD3200SD has room to spare and is quick enough to satisfy most consumers or business users. Being designed for RAID use is definitely a good thing considering how common this is becoming, even for smaller applications. Though this drive will not rival the speeds of WD’s 74 GB Raptor it is much more versatile and cost effective. The drive may seem a bit on the expensive side but considering price-per-gigabyte in is on par with many other drives out there.
