Microsoft new operating system will have an immediate impact on the U.S. economy when it launches early next year, Microsoft claims. According to an IDC study, which was commissioned by Microsoft, the availability of Windows Vista will create 100,000 new jobs and generate $70 billion in sales.

IDC’s findings were published by Microsoft early on Monday. The research firm believes that more than 200,000 IT companies with more than 660,000 employees in the U.S. will be able to profit from the release of Vista.

The launch of Microsoft’s Vista will create 100,000 jobs in the US, the same as that claimed for Europe, but will bring in almost twice as much cash - some $70bn.

Figures, from IDC, but funnily enough commissioned by Microsoft, were released in Europe back in September which showed European regulators they would cost the region $40bn and 100,000 jobs if they stopped the software shipping. Microsoft has long claimed that its products create an "ecosystem" of related businesses which benefit everyone.
