Ultra 1GB PC3200 ULT31088 Memory Review

September 10th 2004 | Memory

When you purchase RAM, you normally receive the sticks in a simple OEM anti-static bag or a plastic container. However, when purchasing Ultra Product’s high-end modules, you now receive them in a mahogany box. Does this RAM really deserve to be packaged in such a pristine container, and can it compete with big name manufacturers like Corsair, Mushkin, and OCZ? At Phoronix we will be checking out the Ultra Dual Channel 1024MB PC3200 DDR 400MHz Memory (2 x 512MB) - Premium Wood Box.

. . .As you can see from the performance section, the Ultra memory performed well at stock speeds. Certainly, the Corsair memory would have outperformed the Ultra memory greatly in all of the tests, if it was running at PC4400 speeds rather than PC3200, but running the memory at these slower speeds offered a good comparison. Overall, Ultra Products provided yet another good product if you are not interested in overclocking. If you happen to be looking for high-quality memory and don’t expect to perform any overclocking, we would possibly point you in the direction of Ultra Products and their ULT31088 Ultra Dual Channel 1024MB PC3200 DDR 400MHz Memory in the premium wood box.

Pros:
∙ 1 GB (2 x 512MB)
∙ Premium Wood Box
∙ 2-3-2-5 stock
∙ 400MHz PC3200
∙ Heatspreaders
∙ Good Stock Performance
Cons:
∙ May not be in the price range of some (~ $240)
∙ Not designed for overclocking
