Choosing a mid-range graphic card is always tricky as there are many products at a variety of prices. Several new products have recently hit the video card market. There are the cards based on the X1800 (ATI´s new high end product) and X800, and then those derived from the NVIDIA 6800 and 6600. What’s the best choice? We have tested all these cards to give you an answer.
You will need to spend at least 120€ / $120, and for this amount of money, the most interesting offer is currently the recently released GeForce 6600 DDR2 by NVIDIA (especially the one tested here built by XFX and clocked at 400 MHz instead of 350 MHz for the same value). It´s ahead of the X1300 Pro (same cost) in all tests and NVIDIA should quickly increase the interest of the GeForce 6600 GT by reducing their prices to the level of the X1300 Pro. The price of the 6600 DDR2 will also be slightly reduced and ATI will have to rethink their pricing policy here to remain competitive.
