Cooler designs have come a long way since the simple forged lumps of aluminium used in the old days of passive cooling. Now, copper-based coolers with heatpipes are becoming almost de rigeur. Today, we will be taking a look at a no-nonsense cooler - the KestrelKing III from Spire. Designed for Athlon 64 and Opteron processors, this cooler will fit any processor using Sockets 754, 939 and 940.
…The Spire KestrelKing III proved to be a worthy alternative to AMD’s stock cooler. Spire markets it as a high-performance cooler, but it is honestly not a cooler an avid overclocker would consider using.
It is, however, still an effective cooler that is easily installed, unobtrusive and reasonably-priced. If you need something reasonable to replace AMD’s stock cooler; or if you purchased an OEM processor (which does not come with any cooler), the KestrelKing III makes a good option for the budget-conscious user.
