January 19th 2004 | Hardware

ExtremeMHz tests Soyo’s new nForce3-150 motherboard, the Soyo SY-CK8 Dragon Plus, on a Windows 64-bit AMD64 Operating System (beta release), and provides benchmark results in both 32-bit and 64-bit environments.

Although 64-bit computing has not yet taken a strong hold of the enthusiast market, many are still excited about its potential. AMD has made 64-bit computing affordable thanks to the release of the Athlon 64 processors. Motherboard manufacturers, like Soyo, have also been releasing affordable 64-bit motherboards to support these new processors. Today we will be looking at Soyo’s latest motherboard based on the nForce 3 150 chipset, the Soyo CK8 Dragon Plus.

. . . The Soyo CK8 Dragon Plus may not offer the performance and features of our recently reviewed Soyo Dragon 2 Platinum P4 motherboard, but for those looking to venture into the world of 64-bit computing, the Soyo Dragon Plus is an affordable solution offering top notch quality and stability. It allows moderate overclocking and can run an Athlon64 3200+ at the speed of a 3400+ while maintaining 100% stability. The nForce 3 150 chipset does not offer much in terms of features, so it is up to the manufacturer to provide them. Unfortunately, not much is offered along with the CK8. This board is mainly targeted at the mainstream Athlon64 user who isn’t all to concerned about features. The CK8 does thrive in a true 64-bit environment and is an ideal choice for those looking to eventually upgrade to a 64-bit operating system
