SOYO - SOYO SY-CK8 Dragon Plus nForce3-150 Motherboard Review

Today 3DXtreme has the great pleasure of reviewing the latest AMD Athlon64 motherboard from Soyo, the SY-CK8 Dragon Plus. The SY-CK8 Dragon Plus uses the already established nVidia nForce3 150 chipset as the basis for this motherboard. The choices of motherboards for Socket 754 are pretty limited right now but are growing every day and it seems the lines between the budget boards and the high end boards are being drawn already. It appears that Soyo is slipping into the middle ground with this board by providing enough features to overshadow the budget offerings while not affecting the price point. Let’s have a look and see if Soyo will again continue to build on the quality of their motherboards with this offering.

. . . Soyo has once again produced a solid product with this motherboard. They have provided the user with all the features to setup an Athlon64 computer system and the headroom for the enthusiast to overclock the CPU to some very respectable numbers. With Athlon64 motherboards really just starting to flood the market, Soyo has jumped out with a definite winner in performance. Pricing is around the mid range for Athlon64 boards and the package they present is certainly in line with other comparable motherboards right now. For a comparison pricing of the Athlon64/nforce3 versus AthlonXP/nforce2 system, it’s hard to beat the price of the later. However, for the performance gain you receive and the future looking to 64bit it’s also hard to pass up this combination. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this motherboard to anyone who is setting up an Athlon64 system.
