Soyo Raptor SY-PS400 400W Adjustable Switching Power Supply Review

August 2nd 2004 | Cases & Acc.

What sets the Raptor apart from the other power supplies on the market is the front bay device which allows you to monitor and adjust the 5.0V and 3.3V rails. The way this works is that on the front of the bay device there are two knobs, or potentiometers (pots), that are used to adjust the voltage. There is also a LCD display on the bay device which allows you to monitor the 5.0V and 3.3V rails. While this isn’t a totally new concept, it is a unique approach. But are adjustable pots really all that useful, or are they just a marketing gimmick?

…The Raptor packs a punch with 400W of power, and it looks damn good too. The construction quality is top-notch which is reflected under the hood with good organization and neatness. While this helps to promote airflow through the power supply, it also showcases Soyo’s craftsmanship and attention to detail. If you consider yourself an enthusiast, and the ability to adjust the pots and monitor voltages would benefit you, then this is a product you most definitely should consider. On the other hand, if you’re just the average Joe or are looking for something more towards the quiet side, you should consider your options.
