21st October 2005 marks Sony Handycam’s 20th anniversary and success in the camcorder industry. On that day, HardwareZone had a chance to walkthrough how the Handycam has evolved over the years since Sony’s first Handycam video Camcorder back in 1985, and at the same time witnesses the launch of Sony’s three new Cyber-shots, the DSC-R1, N1 and M2 digital cameras to mark that eventful occasion. Before we introduce these three new digital cameras, let us highlight a few notable Handycam models from the past that have made their mark in the industry.
Like the Handycam series, the three new Cyber-shots digital cameras also use lens from Carl Zeiss. While the prosumer DSC-R1 camera comes with a 10.3-Megapixel CMOS image sensor for serious photo taking and equipped with some rather neat features for its class, the DSC-N1 and DSC-M2 are designed for simplicity and should attract many who are into taking fun and interesting pictures thanks to their still and short video capturing capabilities. Be sure to look out for our hands-on coverage on these new Cyber-shot cameras once we get our hands on them.
