SOLTEK – Soltek SL-75FRN-L Golden Flame Review @ NinjaLane

February 6th 2003 | Hardware

Soltek recently announced two Golden Flame versions of its SL-75FRN and SL-75FRN-R nForce2 motherboards – the SL-75FRN-L and SL-75FRN-RL (note the additional L). As the name suggests, the Golden Flame ‘limited edition’ boards differ in appearance to the original Purple Ray nForce2 motherboards (which seem to have disappeared from Soltek’s websites): yellow connectors and a metallic gold coloured PCB. Ninjalane reviews the non-RAID version – the SL-75FRN-L (nForce2 SPP/MCP):

“In the past we’ve seen quite a few color combinations come from Soltek starting with the Red Lighting on their Pentium 4 motherboards, followed by the Purple Ray on the AMD side. Red Lighting later became Glacier Silver when Soltek started making video cards. With three(+) new and exciting chipsets on the horizon It would appear that the “Golden Flame” is next in line. It should be noted that current rumors are flying around saying that the Golden Flame might not make it through a product cycle depending on sales, so this board could truly be “Limited Edition…

Personally I am still debating on if I really like the new “Golden Flame” PCB or not, the metallic gold just doesn’t seem to stand out like Soltek made it appear in their product photos. This may sound silly but one of the reasons I don’t like Asus products is due to their PCB color and the “Golden Flame” PCB is just way to similar. It wouldn’t be so bad if maybe the slots were a nice red or purple.

All things considered Soltek has once again released a very solid motherboard that is one BIOS revision away from being even better.”
