SOLTEK - SL-75FRN2-RL Review

Steven Walton takes a look at the Soltek SL-75FRN2-RL (nForce2-S)

I will be looking at a board sporting the latest nForce2 C1 stepping from Soltek. The new Soltek SL-75FRN2 series comes in two flavors; one supports three IDE channels whereas the other supports just two. Soltek have provided the Soltek SL-75FRN2-L which features just two channels, the Soltek SL-75FRN2-RL supports three channel due to the addition of the Promise controller. Soltek offer a wide range of nForce2 boards although they are all quite similar. The only other board that is particularly different from the rest is the SL-75MRN series featuring the integrated graphics engine. The Soltek nForce2 range from what I can tell looks to offer reasonably good value. At first glance the board does not appear to be aimed at the value market, but rather as a high priced feature rich solution. I believe this is due to the board’s rich golden PCB color scattered with yellow connectors. However, after briefly examining the specifications it becomes quite clear that this board isn’t intended on being an all in one solution.
