Single Channel nForce2 400?

April 10th 2003 | nForce2

In addition to the ‘nForce2 Ultra 400′ rebadge for NVIDIA’s new nF2 chipset, the INQ says there will also be a ‘non-Ultra’ single channel version called the ‘nForce2 400′. Unconfirmed so far, which gives us time to wonder what the naming convention for an Ultra-reinForced nForce2 will be? Glance over at the nFHQ Survey and you’ll see we have four different flavours of the nF2 chipset already: nForce2-GT, nForce2-G, and so on. Presuming the new Ultra and non-Ultra 400 nF2s will have similar SPP/ IGP + MCP/MCP-T variations (where capable), we’ll have a lot of combinations to play with. And while we’re talking badges, how about one for my case saying: ‘My other mobo is an nForce2-ST Ultra 400′ : )

However, Nforce2 400 non ultra is going to be single channel solution that will cost 5-6 USD less than Ultra and will obviously be slower. The production of cheaper boards using this will start at the end of April. There will be a few announcements soon and nForce2 400 is pin compatible with nForce2 SPP, it can actually fit into the same PCB design. This will sure save some time and R&D money. As already covered, Nforce2 400 Ultra will be a 400MHz FSB, dual channel enabled chipset but you already know that even current SPP motherboards can work with new 400MHz FSB Athlons.
