SHUTTLE - Shuttle SN95G5 XPC nForce3 Ultra SFF Review

September 29th 2004 | Hardware

A few weeks ago we had the opportunity to ask a few questions of Cameron Rogers from Shuttle about the just released SN95G5 XPC (check it out if you haven’t read it). This short interview left us wanting more. We wanted to show you what kind of perfomance you can expect from one of Shuttle’s infamous XPC’s. So without further fanfare we are excited to bring you a review of the sleek and sexy SN95G5.

. . .Well, now that all is said and done, we have to ask ourselves was it worth it? The answer is a resounding YES! We were able to build a very stylin’, very fast computer for right around $1500. If you never have had the opportunity to build a PC with one of Shuttle’s little marvels, you owe it to yourself to try it out. They have come a long way over the years, and I believe they rank right up there with a full sized ATX computer. I used to be heavy into large ATX cases with enough fans to levitate the thing, but now that I’m a little older, I want something fast, good looking, AND quiet. The SN95G5 fits the bill perfectly. This box would be at home in any room in the house. Heck, even my wife likes it, and that is saying a lot!

The Good
-Top notch engineering
-Easy to follow instructions
-Cool stealthed bays
-Fast AND quiet
-Fun to build
The Bad
-Only one SATA cable
-No “P” chassis for AMD yet
-Only 4 external USB ports, 2 are sitting on the mobo collecting dust
-Mediocre onboard audio
The Ugly
-Improperly functioning SmartFan
-Not using the gigabit LAN/Firewall feature of the nForce3 Ultra chipset
