SHUTTLE - Shuttle SN95G5 XPC nForce3 Ultra SFF Review

September 29th 2004 | Hardware

AMD’s latest enthusiast CPU’s have finally found it into the mainstream SFF market with Shuttle’s recently released SN95G5 XPC. Featuring support for AMD’s Athlon 64/FX Socket 939 CPU’s and sporting the nVidia nForce3 Ultra chipset, the SN95G5 extends Shuttle’s lead in the small form factor market yet again.

. . .Integrated dual channel DDR 400 support, without the requirement for registered ECC memory is a huge step up from socket 754 based SFF’s like the SN85G4V2. As was evident in the over 40% boost in memory performance between the two systems, it’s worth considering an upgrade to Socket 939 if you can bear the cost. And with features like integrated gigabit Ethernet, dual port Serial-ATA RAID, a 2GHz HyperTransport bus, and the other bells and whistles provided with nVidia’s nForce3 Ultra chipset, you won’t find anything like the SN95G5 today in the world of SFF.

So is it time to make the upgrade? That’s a decision only you can make, but one thing’s for clear. AMD’s Socket 939 is hear to stay, and if you’re in the market for the hands-down best enthusiast small form factor system offered today, the Shuttle SN95G5 XPC is the way to go.
