SHUTTLE - Shuttle AN50R nForce3 Motherboard Review

December 6th 2003 | Hardware

Another informative review from MS over at Lost Circuits, this time it’s the nForce3-150 based Shuttle AN50R motherboard:

It is always interesting to see the design of a board and trying to figure out the decisions behind the different layout philosophies, in the case of the Shuttle AN50R, the simplicity of the monolithic chipset has been preserved in the board layout which is among the cleanest and best accessible for any component we have seen in a long time. There is only one chance to make a first impression and that one came across extremely well but how did the board hold up during our rigorous test procedures? There were a few surprises but only little ones and, moreover, they were all positive…

. . . From everything we experienced during the entire review period, we get the impression that Shuttle may have a winner on their hands. The AN50R may not be the ultimate toy for overclockers but it certainly is on par with other boards we have reviewed here. One issue that may be holding the board back a bit is the lack of multiplier adjustments in the BIOS, if there were a way to lower the multiplier, we might have been able to crank up the speed a bit more.
