Samsung ML 1710 Laser Printer Review

January 30th 2004 | Peripherals

Explosive Labs takes a look at the Samsung ML 1710 monochrome laser printer, an entry level model not much larger than an inkjet printer offering performance, features and style for under $200 USD:

The stated 17 PPM printing speed is above average — average being 14-15 PPM, for similar printers in the same price range. As of now the ML-1710’s biggest competition is most likely the Brother HL-1435, HP LaserJet 1012, and Lexmark Optra E210 which can all be found for about the same price tag. DPI, memory and processor speed is right on par with its competitors. What we would have liked to see which is standard on the above listed printers is a USB2.0 Interface. Earlier models of the ML-1710 came with a Parallel port and USB connection but Samsung has dropped the Parallel port in its newer models.

. . . As for the ML-1710 itself, we have been pleased with it since we took it out of its box. Setup is a breeze, we were able to start printing demo pages just a couple minutes after taking it out of the box. That is to say you have an extra USB cable handy. Text printing quality is great with the ML-1710 while graphics quality does lack somewhat. Also pleasing with this printer is its quiet and responsive operation. The 30 second warm up time is pretty much standard for all laser printers, even on some higher end models. The simple control panel fits the design of the printer nicely and does have some nice features to it. It would have been nice to see a few more features to the CP however.
