Quad SLI - GeForce 7950 GX2 squared

June 6th 2006 | Graphics Cards

So you thought the GeForce 7950 GX2 was performance shattering? Just wait till you see the performance potential of going Quad SLI with a pair of these beauties. Though not officially ready for end-users, that didn’t stop HardwareZone.com:

We’ve heard less than favorable outcomes of very early Quad SLI testing with image quality or rendering issues, but we are very glad to report that we saw no such issues with the GeForce 7950 GX2 in Quad SLI mode. In fact there was only one game that failed to work in Quad SLI and that too fell back to dual-GPU rendering mode, thus no problems were encountered.

But before we rejoice that Quad SLI is working great (for the most part of it) and is possibly near the brink of being available for all, pause for a moment to think who exactly would benefit from Quad SLI. Definitely not the average gamer.

To truly benefit from Quad SLI, you need to be using very high monitor resolutions and LCD panels with such high native resolutions that they belong to the group of the wealthy who can afford home theater sized panels such as the 30-inch Apple Cinema displays. The other prerequisite is to have top of the line processors like the Athlon 64 FX-60 or Intel’s Pentium Extreme Edition 965 processor to truly maximize your Quad SLI architecture as going quad imposes more CPU and driver workload. With each quotient weighing in the four-figure amounts, it is no wonder Dell’s ultimate Quad SLI machine goes for so much more.
