Prince Harry, third in line to the British throne, has shocked army training staff at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst by failing a simple computer test.
A military insider told a UK tabloid how the prince slipped up when he was asked to perform a series of simple tests to assess his strengths and weaknesses before he starts as a trainee officer at the academy on May 8.
“Although the computer test was a lot more complex than just sending emails, instructors were amazed that Harry failed it,” said the insider. “He seemed to lack the same skills as the other recruits.”
After the story broke, Colonel Roy Parkinson, protocol officer at Sandhurst in Surrey, said Harry had no problem with the physical tests, but didn’t comment on his computer skills, says the Scotsman.
The prince has revealed he wants to join the Household Cavalry - best known for its ceremonial duties - because of its tradition for playing polo when his military training comes to an end
Although cadets are not normally able to decide where they end up, Harry is expected to join The Blues and Royals rather than The Life Guards to avoid comparisons with Princess Diana love rat James Hewitt - who served in the regiment with distinction during Gulf War One.
Harry’s brother Prince William, currently studying at St Andrews in Scotland, has made plans to follow him to the officer training college. The 22-year-old is expected to join the Welsh Guards, part of the Household Division and currently on six month operational tour of southern Iraq.
Harry, soon to be known as Officer Cadet Wales, is understood to be swotting up on his computer skills with a Sandhurst-issued CD Rom. Before his 44-week training course begins, the prince is spending his last weeks of freedom in South Africa with girlfriend Chelsy Davy.
