Pre-E3: Xbox 360 vs PlayStation 3

If the PlayStation 3 does release at $500, Sony will still sell out this holiday season in the US and probably Japan as well. It’s unlikely the console will see a European release this year, but a Euro launch in early 2007 would help to boost sales early in the year.

If Sony is able to get the price of the PS3 down to $400 to match the Xbox 360, Microsoft will be in for the fight of its life. Given the choice between a $400 Xbox 360 and a $400 PS3 that doubles as a next generation DVD player, consumers will flock to the PlayStation 3 in droves. If this happens, whatever lead MS has when the PS3 launches will be short lived.
