Sony has the PlayStation brand name and the third party support to make the PlayStation Network Platform a huge success. However, Microsoft has several years of experience and the ability to upgrade Xbox Live at any point in time. If Sony includes some stellar new feature in the PlayStation Network Platform, Microsoft can upgrade Xbox Live with the same feature soon after.
Despite the upgradeability of Xbox Live, Sony has the trump card by allowing all PS3 owners to play games online for free. Microsoft offers free weekends to Xbox Live Silver members, but the 360 has been available for over four months and we’re just now seeing the first free weekend coming up next week. One free weekend in four months doesn’t compare to free online gaming out of the box.
