If you’ve been considering a solid-state drive (SSD) in your desktop or notebook but are put off by the high price, the OCZ Core Series may be affordable enough to change your mind. The company’s 64GB model is only $279-an alluring price, considering that 64GB SSDs cost $1,000 not long ago. Though the Core Series drive isn’t as fast as the current king of the storage jungle, Western Digital’s Velociraptor, it’s still significantly faster than a traditional 5,400rpm notebook hard drive (but about the same speed as a 7,200rpm drive).
In our opinion, the biggest benefit of solid-state drives isn’t their speed but their durability. That’s a key concern for most notebook owners, and they would benefit greatly from upgrading to a Core Series drive.
