SANTA CLARA, CA—MARCH 21, 2003—NVIDIA Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA), the worldwide leader in visual processing solutions, today announced that NVIDIA nForce2 platform processors and NVIDIA Quadro® graphics processing units (GPUs) have been selected by Reuters to power PCs used by its photo editors covering the 75th Annual Academy Awards®, being held this Sunday, March 24th at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, CA. NVIDIA® technology gives Reuters a feature-rich and stable computing platform, with advanced networking and video rendering capabilities, for live distribution of news and photos right from the Red Carpet.
“When it comes to selecting hardware for our servers and editing machines, we need to be confident in the reliability, stability, and performance of the platform,” said Gary Hershorn, News Editor-Pictures, Reuters America. “With the innovative, integrated dual networking technology and support for multiple digital monitors, NVIDIA is helping to assure that our coverage of this year’s Oscar® telecast will go on without a hitch.”
The NVIDIA nForce2 technology provides Reuters staff with a solid PC foundation for efficiently distributing news stories and photographs during the live show. The integrated DualNet networking technology allows Reuters to effortlessly configure an on-site server without having to worry about additional hardware or software incompatibilities; and the high-performance NVIDIA Quadro FX provides the graphics capability to render video and still image data as quickly as possible for simultaneous distribution worldwide. In addition, since all NVIDIA products share a common software driver, Reuters can deploy multiple systems equipped with various NVIDIA products, guaranteeing stability, reliability and compatibility across all hardware configurations.
“NVIDIA is proud to be providing the platform and graphics horsepower for this special event,” said Dan Vivoli, executive vice president of marketing at NVIDIA. “Considering that NVIDIA technologies are heralding in a new era of cinematic computing, we’re pleased that we can contribute to continuing coverage of the world’s premier award show celebrating the best in movies and entertainment.”
