The asian website Game Watch has posted some very interesting slides from Sony’s GDC presentations which seem to indicate that the NVIDIA RSX graphics chipset will also handle audio. This would certainly not be the first time NVIDIA has worked with audio as anyone familiar with NVIDIA’s nForce chipsets will remember the SoundStorm audio solution.
HotHardware – PS3’s RSX to Handle Audio?
The "buzz" around the internet today is over a slide presentation from GDC that implies that not only does NVIDIA power the PS3’s graphics, they will also do 8 channel audio as well. While everyone is thinking that this could be “Soundstorm 2”…it could also just be a mislabeled slide. No one really knows for sure but it is always fun to speculate.
