nVidia. This is a company that left 3dfx extinct, effectively outdid VIA in its own area of specialty, and now threatens to do the same with ATi. nVidia has a long list of technological achievements in its relatively brief history, none more significant than its GeForce and nForce brand products. It comes without surprise then, that when nVidia announces an addition to the GeForce and nForce product lines, everybody listens. Cue those cotton swabs and clean out that earwax because today nVidia has launched the next iteration of its prized nForce chipset for the K8 platform. If you’ll recall, the second nForce release for the K7 platform, the nForce2, established the model of paramount performance for the Athlon XP. If the nForce2 is any indication of the improvement nVidia can make between products, we may be in store for a new K8 performance standard in the nForce4.
