NVIDIA nForce4 Comes In Socket 754 & 939

October 18th 2004 | nForce4

WE’VE HAD CONFIRMATION that Socket 754 users will get version of Nforce 4 chipset based motherboards. There are several such design wins. We reported from the start that Nforce 4 can support all three sockets - the 754, 939 and Opteron and old Athlon FX socket 940 - but until now we haven’t any confirmation that someone will make such a board. As soon as we have these details, we will let you know which boards and when to expect them.

This has to be good news for early Athlon 64 supporters who bought their CPUs in the old days when socket 754 was a lonely Athlon 64 socket but now it’s became obsolete and lost the game against more advanced socket 939.

Sempron users - at least the ones that are using Sempron’s that are using 754 - can also celebrate since they will have an option to plug their CPUs in those boards. This means PCIe for old Athlon 64 and Sempron 754 users. So all you need to change for your next upgrade is a motherboard and PCIe graphic card.
