nV News takes a look at the new features of NVIDIA’s nForce2 Ultra 400Gb chipset

Today NVIDIA will be announcing their new nForce2 Ultra 400Gb Media Communications Processor (MCP) for AMD Athlon XP processor-based motherboards. Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time to test the new features on the reference motherboard that NVIDIA provided. The new features serve to enhance the nForce2 platform and consist of Gigabit Ethernet, hardware-based Firewall security, and RAID storage support. With the exception of the number of SATA devices supported (2 vs. 4), the Force2 Ultra 400Gb basically has the same feature set as the new nForce3 250Gb for motherboards that support the Athlon 64 processor.

..NVIDIA provided an updated BIOS, which allows access to chipset features and the System Utility software, which is a full featured monitoring and tweaking program for a limited number of nForce2 and nForce3 based motherboards. With the nForce2 market remaining strong and profitable, NVIDIA made a strategic move in extending the features of the nForce3 250Gb chipset to the Athlon XP family of processors. NVIDA’s Firewall is a unique solution to an ever growing security problem that customers will certainly appreciate having.
