MSI P6N SLI Platinum nForce 650i SLI Motherboard Review

March 21st 2007 | nForce 600

The MSI P6N SLI Platinum motherboard is a good mainstream motherboard for part time tweakers, full time gamers, or for anyone who wants a fully featured board without too steep a price tag. The P6N SLI Platinum boasts a unique silent chipset cooling system, an eSATA port for external hard drives to connect to, and a full compliment of solid state capacitors.

Where the MSI P6N SLI Platinum really shined was in the benchmarks. In virtually every test we ran the P6N SLI platinum had no difficulties keeping up with high end chipsets like the Intel 975X Express, or nVIDIA’s own nForce 680i SLI Intel Edition based motherboards. It’s great to see that whether it’s mainstream or high end, you can get very good performance all around from the Core 2 Duo platform.

On the whole MSI has put together a good well rounded package here. The P6N SLI Platinum offers a good value, even though the second PCI Express x16 slot is only usable when running SLI. In any case, if you plan on building a new PC soon, it is definitely a motherboard to consider.
