Depending on the game, the 6800GS can be slightly faster or slightly slower than the 6800GT that its replacing. In our tests, Doom3, F.E.A.R, Splinter Cell and Serious Sam 2 were slightly faster on the GT whereas Call of Duty 2 and Half Life 2 performed a bit better on the 6800GS. Compared to the X800GTO, the 6800GS proved to be faster in every single game, but then again, the X800GTO can be bought for $50-60 less than the 6800GS.
We’d say that for a little over $200, this card is pretty good value for money and while the X800GTO is priced reasonably less, you wont get Shader Model 3.0 and nVidia’s PureVideo features. While SLI performance is good as seen on the benchmarks in the previous pages, we think that if you’re planning on going down that road, you should spend a bit more and invest in a 7800GT or 7800GTX card as upcoming games will continue being more demanding.
