MSI - MSI Mega180 SFF PC Review

March 16th 2004 | Hardware

t-break has reviewed MSI’s nForce2 IGP & MCP-T based MegaPC, the Mega180:

MSI has been a tad bit slow in releasing their Small Form Factor based PCs.Their first MegaPC took quite a while to hit the market although MSI did provide something very unique by combining Hi-Fi options. It’s been almost nine months now and today we take a look at their second generation offering- the MegaPC 180 based on the nForce2 chipset. Lets find out if this was time spent well by making a good unit even better..

..As far as the PC side is concerned, MSI has made progress with the onboard hardware. Besides using the fastest chipsets, you also get Wireless Networking built-in. Performance of the MegaPC is awesome in gaming which is great as this unit is mainly targeted towards the living room and gaming is something you can definitely enjoy on a big screen TV. However, the lack of Direct-X 7.0 support could cause a problem with the latest games and while an AGP slot exists, we would be careful putting anything in it due to the heat issues described earlier.

All in all, the Mega180 is still one of a kind in the market. It offers the best integration of a Hi-Fi and a PC unit and while we certainly recognize the advances MSI has made in their SFF PC, we think more could’ve been done.
