MSI - MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum nForce3 Ultra Socket 939 Motherboard Review

November 10th 2004 | Hardware

Performance wise, this board stacks up with the best of them. When compared to the other chipset alternative, the VIA K8T800 Pro, there is very little performance difference, with both chipsets running neck and neck throughout our testing. The A64 chipset should definitely be the choice of any gamer that is looking to build a new rig. In overall usage, I would also suggest, as other benchmarks and reviews have shown that the A64 platform is perfectly able to keep up with today’s Intel offerings without apology.

As far as overclocking is concerned, we were able to reach an amazing HTT of 335! That says a lot right there. We did have the issue of the high 1:1 overclocking of not being able to go over 255. We are not completely sure that this was a motherboard problem, and we are working on finding an answer for this. Our “sweet spot” overclock certainly performed wonderfully, and subjectively speaking, the rig just felt very fast!

Overall, the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard was a fantastic board to work with, and we would not hesitate to recommend it for anyone looking to get into the socket 939 club. Overall, we give the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum our “BleedinEdge Gold Blade Award“!
