ClubOC has posted a review
of the MSI K7N2-L (nForce2 SPP-MCP/MCP-T), by Michael:
“Features can read like a grocery list these days with
each company trying to pack as much silicone on the Printed Circuit Board as they
can. The down side to that is often a higher price that some upgrading individuals
may not want to pay. Flexibility is key again by providing motherboards that are
tuned down in features, but still rich in performance. The K7N2-L is just such
a board, offering enough of the vitals to be competitive, but leaving some of
the less used, but costly add-ons off to be saved for a Flagship model.…MSI has certainly delivered an nForce-2 board worthy of
consideration. Priced very modestly at $105 (according to Pricewatch (December
29, 2002) the board should fit within the budget of anyone’s upgrade path. The
lack of RAID, Firewire and Serial-ATA will undoubtedly turn off the pure Enthusiast
crowd, but the motherboard has box USB 2.0 and six PCI slots. This much expansion
leaves plenty of room the features you may miss later on down the road. On-board
Audio has long been a standard among ATX motherboards. Most boards now offer the
full compliment of high-end audio standards such as the features found here, Optical
/ Coaxial SPD/IF connectors, 5.1 surround sound capabilities, and headers for
front panel connections.
W ith the boards ability to run the Athlon at a lower multiplier settings open
up all sorts of Front Side Bus overclocking. Just the way I like it! The BIOS
allows full control of memory timings which should allow you to fine tune any
RAM modules you choose to use. Processor, AGP and Memory voltage tweaks are possible,
and the AGP bus speed itself can be changed to really drop that video card into
Overdrive. All in all, I am very impressed with the board and feel it should do
very well against over nForce-2 offerings.“
