Maxtor has announced that it will be shipping its next-generation 3.5-inch 7200RPM 3.0Gb SATA and ATA 133 hard drives with capacity points up to 500GB in the third quarter of this year.
The new 500GB hard drives will include a host of new features to meet the distinct needs of each brand’s application area. The features will provide significant improvements in areas such as performance, thermal optimization, data management and security, interface and AV stream detection. The 500GB hard drives will also be RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) compliant.
"Maxtor continues to focus on storage solutions tailored for specific market needs," said David Reinsel, director of storage research at IDC. "The Maxtor 500GB hard drive underscores the company’s emphasis on differentiation across all of its product lines, and reflects competitiveness within market segments demanding the highest capacity drives."
The Maxtor 500GB hard drives will be available and shipping in Q3 2005.
