Low Demand for NVIDIA G80 as Market Waits for G84, G85

November 20th 2006 | Graphics Cards

Nvidia’s launch of its DirectX 10-compliant GeForce 8800 GPU (codenamed G80) earlier this month seems to have failed to significantly stir up demand for high-end graphics cards, although the new chips took a lead in 3D computing processing, according to sources at Taiwan-based graphics card makers.

Since the G80 is preliminarily targeting the high-end sector, the sources pointed out that Nvidia’s forthcoming G84 and G86 GPUs for the entry-level and mid-range segments are likely to play a key role in the GPU market, with the two new GPUs expected to debut in the first quarter of 2007.
