Logitech’s QuickCam Sphere is the strangest-looking webcam we’ve ever reviewed. You’ll either love or hate its eyeball-on-a-stick appearance. However, there is a reason behind this unique design. The removable stalk allows you to place the QuickCam directly on your desk while keeping the camera at eye level, and can be easily removed if you want to put the camera on top of your monitor. Logitech’s software is simple to use and allows you to capture still pictures and video clips quickly, both of which look good at its 640×480 resolution.
The camera’s pan-and-tilt motion can be controlled manually from your PC. But the best feature of the QuickCam Sphere is its face-tracking mode. When this is switched on, the Sphere’s electronic eyeball automatically follows you around - perfect for videoconferencing without the difficulty of trying to stay in shot. It may be a little expensive [GB£78], but this is the best webcam we’ve seen. It’s perfect for anyone who wants to use the videoconferencing features in MSN Messenger.
