LG Super Multi DVD Writer GSA-4082B Review

We had the latest review just posted up, this time it’s the LG Super Multi DVD-writer. The GSA-4082B is their latest gadget for penetrating the highly lucrative DVD storage market.. ..The drive is rated at 32X for CD and 12X for DVD – those are not overstatements, except that 12X DVD-ROM read is only achievable with single-layer, non-recordable discs – like many other drives. Dual layer discs and recordable discs are handled at 8X. Overall, we don’t have much complaint about the 4082B reading performance; there is also no noticeable lag during layer transition while watching a dual-layer DVD-Video, probably due to the drive 2MB buffer and Windows XP’s disc access cache.

..LG continues to shine with this superseding Super Multi DVD model. Packed with better performance, better compatibility and more or less the same price as the old model, it is refining its products in every release. DVD-RAM support is an added bonus in the Super Multi DVD series, even though most PC users would hardly use it at all.

What we like
- Reads all CD/DVD formats (except cartridged DVD-RAM).
- Includes an expensive DVD-RAM media in the bundle.
- 4082B is an update on a product line with proven track records.

What we think can be improved
- Lack of mainstream DVD recordable media in the bundle.
- Roll out new models too fast. Products generally have a short shelf life.
- Support and site navigation can be improved.
