Leadtek Winfast A400 Ultra Video Card Review

October 25th 2004 | Graphics Cards

Leadtek’s continuing stance on technology shines on with its latest GeForce 6800 Ultra card which is among the fastest video card we’ve tested. It’s wrapped in a huge copper heatsink that shrouds the GPU and DDR3 modules with effective active cooling that does make the card take up two slots. NVIDIA’s 6800 Ultra GPU continues it’s position as a world-leading performance chip that ATI has had to stay on its heels to compete against. It’s easier to find in retail, offers the best performance going in Doom 3 and is priced competitive relative to its performance offering.

…In the end, Leadtek delivers another solid card that’d make any gamer happy. The A400 Ultra TDH delivers performance in spades while retaining its cool and even allows for some good overclocking. Our last check on Newegg.com had this card pricing out at $600 dollars – quite an expensive proposition by any measure – and a sad one for Leadtek and other add-in board makers. What we have is a case of supply and demand – where the demand for high-end consumer cards are out-pacing the available supply to top retailers so they can get away with charging extraordinary amounts for the products.

Pluses
+Excellent Performance
+Overclocks well
+Good looking and effective heatsink
Minuses

Final Rating: 4 ½ / 5 Drips.
