Inside The Infinium Labs Phantom Console

HardOCP’s Kyle Bennet shows us the insides of a ‘Generation 1′ Phantom Console and takes us through Infinium Labs’ marketing strategy for its yet-to-be released console and subscription-based Phantom Gaming Service. Now in its third incarnation, the Phantom Console ‘receiver’ is powered by a BIOSTAR manufactured NVIDIA nForce2 motherboard.

Infinium Labs has very much changed their appeal to hardcore gamers to a more mild approach with their recent unveiling of their generation 3 console at E3 this year, though they did still focus on UT2K4 in their demos that were given at E3. Infinium Labs has changed their pitch in becoming very focused on selling a gaming service, with less emphasis on the consloe. In fact, they are telling people that the hardware will be free with a 2 year contract or $199 up front with a month to month subscription. Even then they have said they will refund the $199 purchase price if you stay with them for two years. Journalist Robin Miller has been following Infinium Labs and recently wrote an article entitled Phantom game console works, but does the company’s business plan? that you might find of interest.
