Inno3D Geforce 6800GT Video Card Review

September 1st 2004 | Graphics Cards

The Geforce 6800GT is positioned just below Nvidia’s current flagship, the 6800Ultra. Probably the biggest difference between the 6800GT and the 6800U are the core/memory clocks. Everything else from the 6800U remains intact, 16 fully functional pixel pipelines and all – anything the 6800U can do, the 6800GT can too, albeit a little slower (nothing a little overclocking can’t take care of hehehe). There are also some physical differences. While the length of the PCB on both cards is the same, the 6800GT only requires a single slot cooling solution, compared to a double slot cooling solution for its big bro the 6800U. The 6800GT also requires only a single molex connector, compared to 2 for the 6800U.

The Inno3D Geforce 6800GT is a standard 6800GT clocked at the default 350MHz core and 500MHz (1000MHz DDR) for the memory. It has 256MB of GDDR3 memory, and requires a minimum 300W power supply.

First of all, the Inno3D Geforce 6800GT was so fast, my system (3.0GHz Pentium4!) was the bottleneck in many of the benchmarks! I can only wonder how much faster this baby could be with an overclocked Athlon64 3500+ system…

The benchmark results show the Inno3D 6800GT completely owning the 9800pro, but they don’t mean much because the 6800GT’s real rival the X800pro was not available for comparison. However, those of you who have been doing some research would already know that the 6800GT is a great deal when it comes to features and performance. Add in Inno3D’s competitive pricing to the mix, and the Inno3D Geforce 6800GT is a winner in the “just-below-cutting-edge” high end graphics card category.
