How to Build an Intel Mac

Building a Mac seems like a crazy enough idea. Throw in Intel hardware and the men in white suits should be rounding the corner… We risk it for you, and weigh the new platform’s pros and cons. Unless you’ve been too busy fragging your best friend online, you’ve heard the news that shook the computing world. Apple announced that over the course of the next two years, it will move its entire line of computers to the Intel platform.

Since this project is just for tinkering, as opposed to a screaming gaming system designed to help you obliterate your opponents, we can save a lot of money and still come up with the goods. A screaming gaming system is, in fact, impossible due to the lack of video drivers. We built this PC using parts we happened to have lying around. This being ExtremeTech, we happened to have an Intel Pentium 4 3.8-GHz processor lying around.
