The Deskstar series hard drives have been around a long time. They are commonly found in most IBM branded systems and are known for their great performance abilities. Today we will take a look at one of their latest drives that takes into account high capacity and some of the fastest transfer speeds that we have ever seen! The Deskstar 7K250 250GB Serial ATA hard drive is one incredible drive. Accompanied by the almost silent operation, an 8MB buffer and a 7200RPM spindle, the 7K250 is a choice drive for anyone looking for performance without all the noise.
..The Hitachi Deskstar 7K250 Serial ATA hard disk drive is one for the books. Many of the benchmarks that were performed show that this drive has the power to perform at the standard. Many other drives perform below, but close to the standard transfer rates. The PCMark tests were very encouraging and showed that the drive performs quite well. The PCMark 2002 test also broke the HDD score barrier of 10 000 which is great! We attribute this outstanding performance to a combination of the 8MB buffer and the 7200RPM spindle. Unfortunately, not everyone can go out and buy this hard drive. Many of the new motherboards support Serial ATA, but if your motherboard is more than one year old, you are out of luck unless you purchase a new motherboard. The Hitachi DeskStar 7K250 250GB Serial ATA drive goes for a whopping $300 USD (equivalent of $400 CND)!
