Ash G takes a look at the 250GB version of Hitachi’s new 7K250 S-ATA drive series:
Serial ATA has become a staple technology over the past year, manifesting itself in ever-increasing ways. Four of the major hard disk companies have released drives based on the Serial ATA I standard, controller cards have appeared offering internal and external PCI-based upgrade paths, and onboard controllers are becoming commonplace as Parallel ATA and IDE are slowly moving towards legacy status. Serial ATA has even made its mark on SCSI, as the new Serial Attached SCSI standard begins to develop and take advantages that Serial ATA offers.
…Looking at all the drives we’ve tested as a group, the Deskstar 7K250 comes out on top by a large margin in read performance. The write performance is also top-notch, the drive performs quietly, and the drive utilities are as useful as any available. Best of all, Hitachi offers one of the last remaining 3-year warranty services in the industry.
