HIS X700Pro IceQ Turbo (PCI-E) Video Card Review

February 2nd 2005 | Graphics Cards

The 6600GT is a very good card but after my experience with HIS’ X700Pro Turbo, I’d have to say they have a winner here. The only exception to that is in Doom 3 which is an Open GL based game. ATi based cards have always been the underdog with Open GL, but even so, this card still made a good showing. At the lower resolutions, the X700Pro had a consistent, if small lead in Direct3D based games. And though it fell behind at the 1600 resolution, it wasn’t enough to matter. The image quality was good enough that I couldn’t tell the difference between the two cards in all of the screen shots that I took.

Hightech Information have always provided excellent cooling for their products and the IceQ cooler is extremely well designed. While some may dislike the fact that it takes up and extra PCI/PCI-E slot, it gets the job done very well, and fairly quietly too. The IceQ cooler coupled with the X700XT core on this card made for an excellent overclocker, which I have come to expect from HIS.

The bundle that came with this card is incredible. In addition to a game pack CD, and the full version of Counter Strike: Source, HIS also added quite a few software programs that set this cards bundle above it’s competitors. And that’s not even counting their overclocking software, iTurbo
