Gigabyte GV-3D1 Vid Card & GA-K8NXP-SLI (NVIDIA nForce4 SLI) Motherboard Preview

Making use of nvidia SLI technology & the high performance 6600GT GPUs, Gigabyte shocked the computer world with the announcement of the first dual core PCI-Express graphic card : GV-3D1. With two nvidia 6600GT graphic processors & 256MB DDR memory on a single board, the Gigabyte 3D1 eliminated the needs for two standalone 6600GT graphic cards to run SLI mode. This may be a more cost-effective solution provided that the 3D1 is cheaper than two pieces of 6600GT. Another concern is whether the 3D1 is as fast as two 6600GT in SLI mode.

If you are wondering whether you can run two 3D1 cards on a SLI board, the answer is no. Apparently the two 6600GT cores already make use of the nvidia SLI interface to communicate and there are no SLI connectors for you to connect two of these cards. In addition, you still need a SLI capable board for the 3D1 or else only one of the processor is activated. At the moment, only Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-SLI is officially capable of activating both GPU. Not surprising, Gigabyte actually bundle the 3D1 together with GA-K8NXP-SLI.
