Fujifilm FinePix S9100 Digital Camera Review

February 1st 2007 | Cameras

Fujifilm’s S9000 digital camera. To the untrained eye this camera looks a lot like a digital SLR but a closer inspection will reveal that it actually has a fixed lens. This makes the S9000 something of an oddity in the world of digital still cameras: a manual focus, fixed lens camera that has the size and look of a DSLR, but not the price tag.

Looking at the vitals we can see that the S9100 looks pretty solid on paper. The lens is very versatile and can go from operating at 10.7x zoom all the way down to macro mode where it can shoot from as little as four inches away. Other important numbers include a 9MP image with a resolution of 3488×2616 pixels, the ability to shoot to CF or XD, and that it’s powered by plain old AA batteries.

..I used the S9100 extensively and have found the picture quality to easy-of-use ratio of this camera is fantastic. Fujifilm has a reputation for cameras that are predictable and easy to use, and the S9100 is no different. The way it combines the possibility of casual shooting with high quality images under almost any circumstances is its best feature. A novice can pick up this camera and be taking good pictures in just a few minutes, where as with a DSLR they will have some work ahead of them before they can take quality shots.
