Foxconn WinFast NF4UK8AA nForce4 Ultra Motherboard Review

March 22nd 2005 | nForce4

Foxconn has really delivered an exceptional value with the WinFast NF4UK8AA board. It’s easily $30 to $50 cheaper than other motherboards based on the nForce 4 Ultra chipset and costs about as much as the less-expensive regular nForce 4 boards. That isn’t to say it’s a slam-dunk, though. The MCP chip and SATA-II connectors are very poorly located, and it’s a real shame that the BIOS lacks options for tweaking the CPU multiplier. Further, the SuperStep tweaking/monitoring utility is terribly designed.

If you’re building a system that doesn’t use an “FX” series Athlon 64, you can’t tweak the CPU multiplier anyway. This board is a great value for those who are sticking with the regular Athlon 64 line or are buying an FX chip with no plans to aggressively overclock it. If you want to put in a large graphics card and use more than two SATA connectors, you should think again, though.

With those caveats, this board is a great deal, offering nForce 4 Ultra features at an exceptional price. If full access to all 4 SATA connectors with a large graphics card and the ability to tweak the CPU multiplier are important to you, consider spending more for a different motherboard.
