I have a slight problem with my brand new Sound Blaster X-Fi card.
I was using some old Athlon 2000+ based computer and bought the new X-Fi card. Everything was running fine.
I felt the machine was too slow so I upgraded with an MSI Neo4-FI MB and a Athlon64 3000+. Suddenly strange things are happening. The X-Fi card spawns around 40 PCI devices that Windows can't recognize. Duting boot the same amount of PCI devices are listed by the BIOS. I have upgraded to the latest BIOS, drivers etc and they are still there. I even swapped the MB for a new one since the X-Fi card works like a charm with the old MB..
Any suggestions? |

| Yeah, talk to Creative Labs. I've never even heard of something like that happening. |

i was going to ask if you've done a format/reinstall of windows after installing that new mobo, but if the bios is also reporting that many cards then your problem is far deeper than a clean windows :S
i've got an MSI nForce 4 K8N Diamond motherboard and my X-Fi Fatal1ty Gamer arrives tommorow (wednesday) - i hope i don't end up with this problem... if i do i'm blaming you for j!nxing me! |

believe it was confirmed to be a bios problem on nforce4 boards... can't find where I read that though. thinks it affects most, but not all, nf4 mainboards.

This is a problem with SOME nForce 4 boards.....I had a Foxconn which had this problem, but the Asus a8n did not.
Some board makers have issued new BIOS releases to fix the problem, so i'm sure MSI will release one shortly. |

Problem confirmed on Creative's site. I got my X-Fi XM yesterday and experienced the same problems. Then I found this thread discussing the issue:
http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&message.id=26289&view=by_date_ascending&page=15
Hi everyone,
First of all I'd like to thank you all again for your feedback, both here on the forum and in direct contact with Customer Support.
A problem was identified on nForce4 based systems where the system ran into difficulties, related to the enumeration of the cards with 2MB (X-Fi XtremeMusic and X-Fi Platinum). This resulted in a variety of symptoms:
- The system may freeze or not boot
- The system may list multiple "Unknown PCI Device" entries and lead to a BSOD
- The system may reboot repeatedly (when "Automatically Restart" is enabled in the Advanced system settings)
Some motherboard manufacturers have already acknowledged this issue and released a BIOS update to resolve it. For systems where a BIOS update is not available we will be providing an alternative resolution in the form of a replacement card with modified firmware. Please contact Customer Support for your region for further details.
