We reported on Q815411 initially on March 22nd and offered you the download as well as the german version on March 24th. The patch that fixes a memory allocation problem with SP1 and the speed of programs loading in Windows XP has another significant effect as german website HardTecs4U reports. The patch was entitled: Programs Run Slower After You Install Windows XP SP-1.
HT4U has reviewed several nForce2 mainboards in their comprehensive nForce round up. During their benchmarking sessions which included HDTach, a popular IDE performance test, they observed CPU utilization up to almost 60% under Windows XP with nForce IDE drivers. Windows XP standard drivers still showed CPU utilization in the mid 30% range.
A recent update on their mainpage now states that after applying Q815411 CPU utilization has returned to pretty standard measures of 15%. No other changes have taken place.

Note: This article was revised on 4/12/2003 to more accurately reflect the specific purpose and details of the fix. The original title of this article gave the false impression that this was a problem facing many, if not most, Windows XP users who installed SP1. In fact, the problem affects a very small number of customers who are using a privately designed program that exhibits behavior that the hotfix was created to address. (This article was previously published under the title: “Programs Run Slower After You Install Windows XP SP-1”. The contents of the hotfix itself have not changed, only the Knowledge Base documentation was revised for improved accuracy and clarity.

If you don't think they're past THAT version number, assuming you keep up to date on the SPs and winupdates, then you're nuts.
